Samui, Phangan cited for promo efforts at ITB
KOH Samui and Koh Phangan have done well to promote tourism by joining the ITB travel fair held in Berlin, Germany, last March 11-15.
Koh Samui Tourism Promotion Association caretaker Seni Phuwasethaworn said focusing on Samui and nearby islands during the international tourism trade fair had convinced tourists to visit them.
Tourism continues to be a huge industry for Thailand, especially with such attractions like Samui and other island destinations. In the end, however, it depends a lot on how communities market their destinations and if they have the facilities to accommodate visitors.
In the last few years, Samui has seen an increase in the number of tourist arrivals, with annual income from tourism having reached at least Bt10 billion. Analysts believe continued participation in such events like the ITB Berlin will continue to boost tourism revenues.
Koh Phangan Tourism Promotion Association chief Wanne Thaiphanit said the tourism industry is important to the economy and that everyone should help one another.
