AN Australian woman was sexually assaulted at a seaside resort near Chaweng beach where she was staying.

Tuckley Bobbird, 20, also suffered bruises after her attacker tried to strangle her.

Bandon Inter Hospital summoned Samui police early morning of March 26 after the rape victim checked in.   The police found her in a state of shock.
She was being comforted by her friend, Jeda Hubird, 23, also from Australia.

The victim later told police she, Jeda and Jeda’s  boyfriend were on Samui for a holiday and staying at Somwong House  on Chaweng Beach road.
She was at Room B13 while her companions were at the room next to hers.

She said that at about 5 a.m. on March 26, she  woke up and found a man  in her room.

He had a knife and sexually attacked her. She struggled -- to no avail.
Tuckley  said that after the rape, the man left with her passport, cell phone and wallet.

She sought help from her friends who took her to the hospital.
An examination done by Dr. Phaisan Rattanasuwan at the hospital showed evidence of sexual attack.

Later in the day, police went to scene of the crime to look for clues.
The victim’s  wallet was later found empty near the guesthouse.
Police believe that the rapist could be someone who lives in the neighborhood because he seemed to know how to get in and out of the resort quite easily.

They later contacted the victim’s cell phone and service network provider to track the current user of the phone.

In the evening of the same day, police arrested bar employee Somchai Daunglai, 26, not far from the resort where the crime happened.

He had been linked to a number of theft cases involving   items belonging to tourists.
